Working Together on Sustainability Across The Trust
Thursday, 23rd April 2026

Pupils from across Leverhulme Academy Trust came together today to celebrate progress on their shared Plastics Project, marking another positive step in their ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
All three Trust schools have been working both collaboratively and within their own settings to explore ways of reducing plastic waste and promoting greener practices. The session gave them an opportunity to share updates and build on the ideas they’ve been developing.
Hosted at Lostock Primary School, the event took place in the school’s Forest Explorer area, providing a relaxed outdoor space for practical learning. Pupils, staff and governors from Rivington and Blackrod High School and Harper Green High School joined Lostock pupils for a practical session focused on reusing plastic materials in creative and purposeful ways.
Working together, pupils transformed discarded plastic into planters, planting seeds to support local biodiversity. The activity reinforced the importance of recycling and reuse, while highlighting how small actions can contribute to wider environmental change.
There was a strong sense of teamwork throughout the day, with pupils of all ages sharing ideas and helping each other. The session concluded around the campfire, where pupils toasted marshmallows and enjoyed s’mores, offering a chance to reflect on the morning’s achievements in a relaxed setting.
