Students Experience Life as a Footballer at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium
Friday, 11th October 2024
After last year's successful trip to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Harper Green School aimed to reward more exceptional students with the chance to experience ‘A Day in the Life of a Footballer.’ Students were challenged at the beginning of the year to achieve perfect attendance, demonstrate outstanding behaviour, excel in their learning, and engage in personal development through extracurricular activities. Those selected truly embodied the ‘We are Harper’ values.
During the visit, students were treated like VIPs, following the daily routine of a first-team player from wake-up to post-match. Trained tour guides provided insights on preparation, fitness, diet, performance analysis, and the mental aspects players face before a match.
The tour began in the away team dressing rooms, where students sat in the very seats of football legends like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. They learned about the psychological tactics used to influence the opposing team’s preparation. This was contrasted with the home changing rooms, where current stars like Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland prepare for games, focusing on routines that enhance performance.
As the students lined up to walk down the tunnel, the roar of the crowd welcomed them into the expansive 50,000-seat stadium. They enjoyed the privilege of standing in areas where legendary managers like Pep Guardiola and Sir Alex Ferguson devised strategies. The tour concluded with students exploring the stadium and taking photos with the Premier League trophy, creating lasting memories.
The tour guides praised the students, noting their 'exemplary behaviour and enthusiasm', showcasing how well they represented the Harper Green community.
