Rivington & Blackrod High School Celebrates World Book Day 2026

Friday, 6th March 2026

Students and staff at Rivington and Blackrod High School came together to celebrate World Book Day, enjoying a range of activities designed to promote a love of reading across the school.

Staff fully embraced the day, dressing up in costumes inspired by different genres, from fantasy and science fiction to romance, horror and non-fiction. Year 7 students also got involved, with some brilliant costumes on show, helping to spark conversations about favourite books and characters.

Across the school, departments incorporated reading-themed activities into lessons, while students took part in a range of competitions. These included solving book clues displayed on classroom doors, creative book-themed door displays and the KS3 Big Book Quiz House Competition.

Key Stage 3 students also took part in a ‘Drop Everything and Read’ session, giving them the opportunity to pause their normal timetable and enjoy reading for pleasure using their Team Time reading books.

The day concluded with the KS3 Big Book Quiz House Competition, where students worked together to test their literary knowledge and represent their houses.

It was wonderful to see the whole school community come together to celebrate reading, with such enthusiasm and creativity shown throughout the day.
