New EV Charging Points Installed Across Our Schools

Monday, 31st March 2025

We are pleased to announce the installation of brand new electric vehicle (EV) charging points across our schools. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions and making eco-friendly travel more accessible for our school communities.

A total of 12 EV charging points have been installed—seven at Harper Green School and five at Rivington and Blackrod High School and Sixth Form, with the potential to expand in the future. By introducing these facilities, we aim to make the transition to electric vehicles even easier, providing greater convenience for those who drive electric vehicles or are considering making the switch.

The charging points, supplied by Project EV, are available to staff and invited visitors across the Leverhulme Trust. Access is managed via a simple registration process: users must first provide their email address to the school. They will then receive an email invitation to sign up. Once registered, they can scan the QR code at the charging point, log in, and begin charging their vehicle.

This project has been made possible through the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) for education institutions, a government initiative designed to increase the number of charging stations across the UK. Since 2016, the scheme has funded over 59,000 workplace charging sockets, with 6,500 chargers added in 2024 alone.

The installation of these charging points is a fantastic step forward in supporting sustainable transport across the Trust, and we hope to expand the initiative to even more schools in the future.
