Lostock Primary School Celebrates Second Consecutive Green Flag Award

We are delighted to announce that Lostock Primary School has achieved the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction for the second year running!
The award recognises the fantastic work taking place across the school to help pupils learn more about the environment and the difference they can make both in school and in their local community.
The Eco-Schools assessor was particularly impressed by the work of Lostock’s Eco-Council, who have worked with schools across Leverhulme Church of England and Community Trust on a shared project to tackle plastic waste. This has already led to changes including replacing plastic bottles and yoghurt pots, alongside a creative planting project using recycled plastic.
The assessor described the work as “inspiring” and praised pupils for creating “real environmental change”.
There have been lots of other successes throughout the year too. During Switch Off Fortnight, electricity use fell from 157 kWh to 126 kWh, while the school’s WOW Travel Tracker recorded an amazing 17,100 active journeys.
Pupils have also taken part in community litter picks alongside local volunteers and council representatives, while work around the school grounds has included hedgehog houses, bird boxes, squirrel homes, allotment projects and growing areas to encourage biodiversity.
Environmental issues are also embedded in learning, with pupils exploring topics including plastic pollution, rivers, climate change and plant growth. The assessor praised the school’s ability to bring together pupils, families, governors, Bolton Council and Trust schools, highlighting how this collaboration has helped create lasting environmental change.
Achieving the Green Flag Award with Distinction for a second consecutive year is a brilliant achievement for the whole school.
