Leverhulme Schools Take Part in Great British Spring Clean

Wednesday, 25th March 2026

Schools across Leverhulme Academy Trust came together to support the Great British Spring Clean 2026 (13–29 March), taking part in the Trust’s annual Leverhulme Litter Pick.

Pupils, staff and volunteers from Rivington and Blackrod High School, Harper Green School and Lostock Primary School came together to help tidy their local communities, showing real pride in the areas they live and learn in.

Building on last year’s success, the Trust’s Climate Champions began the day at Rivington, collecting litter around Lever Park, before heading to Lostock Primary School to continue. After a well-earned break, the group finished the day at Harper Green School, helping to clear nearby streets and green spaces.

Vicki Guest, Director of Primary Education and Sustainability Lead for the Trust, praised the collaboration: “All our Climate Champions demonstrated our Trust values perfectly in this collaborative project, particularly integrity and high expectations. Despite the Great British weather being true to form, the children showed remarkable resilience and commitment throughout the day. A special thank you to all staff, pupils and volunteers involved, and to Gareth Pike from Love Bolton Hate Litter for delivering an assembly at Lostock Primary School and for his continued support of the project each year.”

The litter pick is just one part of the Trust’s wider sustainability work. Pupil Climate Champions are also leading a collaborative Plastics Project, focused on reducing, reusing and recycling plastic across all schools.

This work has recently been supported by a £2,000 eco grant from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, helping to further strengthen the Trust’s commitment to sustainability and making a positive difference within the community.Leverhulme schools support Great British Spring Clean
