Harper Green School Supports Local Communities During the Christmas Period
Friday, 19th December 2025

Students and staff at Harper Green School have been working together throughout December on a range of initiatives to support individuals and families facing difficulties over the winter months. Alongside providing practical help, these activities encourage young people to recognise the importance of kindness, responsibility and contributing positively to their community.
One key initiative saw staff and students create over 100 Dignity Bags for people experiencing homelessness. The bags were carefully prepared and distributed through Homeless Aid UK at street kitchens across Bolton.
The school also supported local foodbanks through Harvest collections and staff donations during the Leverhulme Trust 12 Days of Christmas campaign, contributing food equivalent to hundreds of meals for local families. Further donations were made to Urban Outreach in support of its Christmas Dinner on Jesus campaign, helping to provide Christmas hampers across its communities.
Another long-standing tradition at Harper Green School is the Secret Santa gift donation initiative. Thanks to the generosity of staff, parents and members of the local community, over 100 Christmas gifts were donated, giving many students the opportunity to choose and wrap presents for their families.
In addition, the school supported the delivery of more than 50 food hampers through Crescent Foodbank, helping families who may find the festive period particularly challenging.
Mrs Paula Holmes-Patel, Assistant Headteacher, said: “The festive period can be challenging for some families and we are proud of the way our students and staff have worked together to offer support where it is needed most.”
Together, these activities reflect Harper Green School’s continued commitment to supporting its local community and helping students develop compassion, responsibility and an understanding of the difference they can make.
