An Unforgettable Adventure on the Ski Slopes

Friday, 28th February 2025

A group of students from Rivington and Blackrod High School recently returned from an incredible skiing trip to Sestriere, a stunning resort in the Italian Alps known for its Olympic history. What had been months in the making turned into a truly memorable experience, filled with new challenges, personal achievements and plenty of fun.

The trip was about more than just skiing—it provided an opportunity for students to build resilience, work as a team, and appreciate the outdoors. From the moment they arrived, they were greeted with breathtaking panoramic views of snow-covered peaks. Students were placed into beginner, intermediate, and advanced groups, with professional instructors guiding them throughout the week. For many, it was their first time on skis, and overcoming those early nerves was a real accomplishment. By the end of the trip, even the beginners had gained confidence, with some tackling red runs—a fantastic achievement.

Beyond developing their skiing skills, students formed lasting friendships and learned valuable lessons about perseverance and determination. The week was filled with hard work, encouragement, and plenty of laughter.

The resort staff were full of praise for the students, with one representative commenting:
“The students’ behaviour was exemplary and a credit to [School Name]. Our ski instructors commented that they were one of the best groups they have had – polite, attentive, and engaging. It is rare that all students on a ski trip persevere to the end, with some just giving up, but your students kept going and supported one another. Even the beginners faced their fears and were able to do red runs by the end of the week.”

A brilliant trip and an experience to remember—well done to all involved!
